Edgemoor, SC – On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Melba Faye Thompson peacefully departed from her granddaughter’s house in Rock Hill SC.
A service to celebrate Melba’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Pastor Matt Burrell will be officiating.The family will receive friends after the service and will gather at Grandview Memorial.
Melba was the embodiment of love and kindness, her presence brought comfort to all who crossed her path. She had an infectious smile and laughter. With open arms and a heart overflowing with affection, she welcomed each loved one. She was the heart of every family gathering.
Born on July 14, 1936, Melba was the beloved daughter of Oscar Leroy Hook and Ruth Aline Hook. She grew up in Royalton, IL alongside her sister, Shirley Cason.
In her 69 years of marriage to Marvin Henry Thompson, Melba was a devoted partner and the loving mother of Richard Michael Thompson, Roy Eugene Thompson, Debra Kay Sawyer, and Lee Skinner. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to her grandchildren: Ryan Kerr, Jami Jones, Angela Fluck, Frankie Wanger, Heather Autry, Christi Thompson, Erin Thompson, Kristin Skinner, Tonya Ellis, and Shawn Thompson. She also has 25 great-grandchildren.
Melba opened her home and her heart to countless relatives and friends in need, offering comfort, love and shelter. Her sense of humor was infectious, and her presence could transform any gathering into a celebration of joy and love.
Melba will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be cherished, and her legacy of love will endure through the countless lives she touched.
