Elizabeth “Libby” Jenkins Vaughan, 90, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, SC surrounded by family. She was a cherished wife, mother, sister, friend, respected nurse, and Christian.
Libby was born in Union, SC on January 7, 1934 to Richard Harris Jenkins and Mae Thomas Jenkins. After graduating from Union High School, she entered The Medical University of South Carolina to study nursing. After graduating, she went to work in Union for Drs. Hope, Hames, and Keith as a registered nurse. She was also employed at York General Hospital in Rock Hill and finally the Rock Hill School District for over 20 years. Having a servant heart, this lifelong career was a calling for Libby.
Libby loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and watching the Atlanta Braves. Libby’s faith never wavered. She lived her life always thinking of and caring for others. She was member of Woodland United Methodist Church for over 60 years, spending most of that time in her beloved Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Libby is survived and missed by her loving husband of 68 years, Bruce A. “Tony” Vaughan; her daughter, Dr. LuAnne Vaughan Gatlin (John) of Mooresville, NC; her son, Brian Vaughan (Marco) of Rock Hill; a sister, Rita Jenkins Vanderford (Stanley) of Union, SC; and a brother Ellis W. Jenkins of Charleston, SC. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Michael Gatlin (Kristin), Hannah Gatlin (Tae Joon), Harris Vaughan, Sam Gatlin, and Caroline Vaughan, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers- Gene Jenkins, Ralph Jenkins, and Randy Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Woodland United Methodist Church, 801 Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732, conducted by Rev. Dr. James W. Bradley and Rev. Robin Griffeth. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 11 am. A private burial will follow the service.
