Amy Sophia Patterson was the beloved daughter of Charles McGrath Patterson and Marie Schaettle Patterson. She grew up in West Hartford, CT, and was a mischievous little sister to Jane Patterson Havens and big sister to Robert Benjamin Patterson. The maternal side of her family was from Lacrosse, WI, where Amy spent many happy summers and holidays. It was there she attended Saint Francis School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She also met her husband, Robert T. Novak, in Lacrosse. They married on December 28,1946 in West Harford, CT.
Amy’s proudest achievement was being the mother of 8 children: James and Joseph Novak (who died within days of their birth, but who were celebrated throughout her life), and her 6 surviving children: Robert T. (Karan) Novak, Jr., Ann Novak Ryan, Charles V. Novak, Teresa Novak Allan, Andrew P. (Monique) Novak, Joan Novak Gormley. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her brother, Robert B. (Ruth) Patterson. Her family and friends will always cherish, celebrate, and be shaped by her appreciation for all things beautiful, her ability to make even the simplest things special, and every birthday and holiday magical. All will forever miss her beautiful face and smile but know her greatest gift of unwavering and unconditional love will be with us always.
