Arthur (Art) William Steadman, son of the late Lester William Steadman and Etta Rea Putman Steadman, passed away at home on April 12, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sara Northey Steadman, daughter Sarah Sheree Steadman and 2 sisters, Gladys Rape and Brenda Bannister. He is preceded in death by his daughter Dr. M. Sharm Steadman and 2 sisters, Hattie Owensby and Geraldine Kirkland.
He graduated from Blacksburg High SC, Blacksburg, SC, Shelby Business college, and the College of Advanced Traffic, Chicago IL. He was in the US NAVY for 5 years and served aboard the USS Princeton Aircraft Carrier during the Korean war and completed his service at the Marine Air Station, Opalocka Fl. At the rank of AK2.
He was employed by Hoechst Celanese for 34 and 1/2 years and retired as a Corporate Purchasing Manager. After retiring, he volunteered with several local organizations.
He was a respected and loved member of First Baptist Church of Rock Hill. He greeted everyone with smiles or hugs. He served as a deacon and adult Sunday School director. He was a member of the bereavement committee, flower ministry, and joy choir. He was faithful member of Sunrisers Sunday School class and also a member of the Salisbury Masonic Lodge. He loved sports having played football, basketball, and baseball lettering in all. After leaving the Navy he enjoyed golf, UNC Chapel Hill basketball and loved traveling with his family. He was a loving husband and devoted father to his two daughters.
As his health declined his family will be forever grateful for the loving attention and care given by his care givers, Shirley Houston, Dewander Wylie, and Siedah Strong.
Burial will be private and a Celebration of Life Service will be at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730, on Saturday April 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Jamie Burdette officiating.
