Rock Hill, SC – On January 21, 2023, Dr. Walter “Buddy” Probst Tiedeman, III slipped away peacefully to join God in Heaven at 85 years of age. He was a beloved Physician, Husband, Father, and Grandfather; a man of humbleness and great humility.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior,144 Caldwell Street, Rock Hill, SC with the Reverend Jane Rogers Wilson officiating. Followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:00 until 2:00 pm. A private burial with military honors at 3:00 pm. A visitation for those who are unable to attend the Memorial Service will be Friday, January 27, 2023 from 5:00 until 6:30 pm, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.
Buddy was born in Greenville, SC but lived most of his life in Bamberg, SC. He graduated from Bamberg High School Class of 1955, Wofford College Class of 1958, the Medical University of South Carolina in 1962, completed an internship at Greenville General Hospital in 1964, and earned a degree in General Surgery from the Medical College of Georgia in 1972.
After his internship, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army. He served from 1965 until 1968 in Nurnberg, Germany as Chief Medical Officer of the Out Patient Clinic. He returned stateside and completed a four-year Residency in General Surgery.
In 1972, he joined the Rock Hill Surgical Associates; The practice of Dr. Alton Brown, Dr. Frank Fairey, and Dr. Hubert Platt. For 40 years, he lovingly served the people of York County.
Buddy was a member of The Episcopal Church of Our Savior where he served on the Vestry in various capacities 3 different terms. He served as Chief of Staff of Piedmont Medical Hospital, as an officer in the York County Medical Society, Vice President of the SC Surgical Society. With the Presbyterian Presbytery, he spent time on a mission trip to Guatemala providing medical assistance to those people. His leisure time was filled with family time, playing golf, bridge, reading, and traveling.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carole Barber Tiedeman; two sons, Jay Wells Tiedeman (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC and Clayton Edward Tiedeman (Jocie) of Milton , GA. and 5 grandchildren, Sara Catherine Tiedeman of Charlotte, NC, Andrew Walter Tiedeman, of Raleigh ,NC, Jackson Wells Tiedeman, of Charlotte, NC; Wesley Edward Tiedeman, and Clayton Elizabeth Tiedeman, both of Milton , GA; two sisters-in-law, Diane Barber of Tryon.NC, and Esther Dance of Boca Raton, FL; two nieces, Joy Mischley of Candler, NC and Lisa Mischley of Kirkland, CA.
